In this issue of Healthcare Matters, we are pleased to feature Humidity Solutions as our Humidity Control Company of the Month.
Humidity is something most of us notice only when there is too much of it or too little. But in healthcare, manufacturing, research and a host of highly controlled environments, getting humidity right can be critical. That is where Humidity Solutions has built its expertise.
Established in October 2008, Humidity Solutions was founded in response to a straightforward market need: a dedicated specialist that could bring together high-quality humidity control equipment, technical expertise and genuinely responsive customer service. Today, the Leatherhead, Surrey-based company is an independent UK distributor of humidification and dehumidification equipment, supporting customers across a remarkably diverse range of applications.
The business was founded by John Barker, Lindsey Henderson and Kevin Otway, with Barker now serving as Managing Director. From the outset, the ambition was not simply to supply a piece of equipment, but to understand the environment in which it would operate and develop a solution around the customer’s requirements. That philosophy remains central to the business today.
Humidity Solutions provides both humidifiers and dehumidifiers, but its offering extends considerably further. Its team can carry out site surveys, advise on system requirements, design bespoke solutions, supply equipment, install and commission systems, and provide ongoing technical support and planned maintenance. In other words, the company can remain involved throughout the life of a humidity-control system rather than simply handing over a product and walking away.
That full-service approach is particularly relevant in healthcare, where humidity control can play an important role in maintaining stable and controlled environments. Humidity Solutions works across hospitals, healthcare facilities and specialist medical research environments. In one recent case study, the company supplied and installed dehumidification equipment for dry rooms at a medical research facility supporting the development of diagnostic processes for hospitals.
The importance of precision becomes even clearer when sensitive equipment is involved. The company says humidity control can be essential for the efficient operation of equipment such as MRI scanners, making reliability a key consideration alongside the quality of the equipment itself. Humidity Solutions combines humidity-control technology with water-quality management and bespoke controls to create solutions tailored to individual requirements.
Its work extends well beyond healthcare, however, and that variety is one of the more unusual aspects of the business. Its customers include consultants, contractors, facilities managers, engineers and end users across healthcare, HVAC, manufacturing, data centres, food and beverage, conservation, leisure and wellbeing.
The list is ‘wide and varied,’ meaning one project might involve installing a system inside a sloth enclosure at a major animal park, while another could involve a highly controlled cleanroom environment for a Ministry of Defence contractor. Different settings, different challenges, but the same fundamental requirement: maintaining the right humidity for the job.
The company’s track record has also received industry recognition. Recent accolades include Distributor of the Year at the 2023 HVR Awards, followed by Project of the Year, Product of the Year and Service Team of the Year at the 2024 ACR Awards. In 2025, the company again received ACR recognition for Product of the Year and Customer Service Team of the Year.
More recently, Humidity Solutions has invested in its own environment, refurbishing its Leatherhead headquarters to create a more modern, energy-efficient and environmentally friendly workplace, alongside upgraded AV, communications and IT infrastructure.
One of the most distinctive additions is the new Humidity Museum, which offers visitors an opportunity to explore the company’s history alongside the evolution of humidity-control technology. It provides a tangible link between the science, engineering and expertise that have shaped the business and the solutions it delivers today.
Looking ahead, the company says its ambition is to continue growing without losing the specialist knowledge and personal service that customers value. Innovation and energy efficiency will remain key priorities, with a continued focus on helping customers achieve greater control of their indoor environments.
Ultimately, Humidity Solutions believes humidity deserves greater recognition as part of indoor air quality. Whether the requirement is supporting sensitive healthcare equipment, protecting a specialist environment or contributing to healthier buildings, getting humidity right can make a significant difference. The company’s role is to make that process as straightforward as possible, combining technical expertise with practical, tailored solutions.
